More formally called SYNC 4 with Enhanced Voice Recognition, SYNC 4 is a voice command technology allowing drivers to keep their eyes on the road while directing the technology to make phone calls and other direct commands available. With twice the computing power over the previous SYNC 3 version, SYNC 4 brings the ultimate communications and entertainment system to your Ford vehicle.
Upon entering your Ford vehicle with SYNC 4 technology and Apple CarPlay or Android Auto device, gone are the days needing a cord to connect to the vehicle! With SYNC 4 and compatible devices – the driver’s smartphone connection instantly displays music or audio, Navigation and other available apps from the smartphone.
SYNC 4 uses conversational voice commands to let the vehicle be the vehicle’s expert. Voice controls with natural language recognition include:
- Phone with email and SMS read and reply
- Navigation with one search box
- Radio/media operation
- Climate features
- Optional “wake words”
- Steering wheel Push-to-Talk (PTT) button
Owners can simultaneously connect two phones via Bluetooth. They can alternate between the two phones to call, email, text, speak commands and use Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. NOTE: Dual phone connection does not allow these actions simultaneously.
Software Updates: SYNC 4 will periodically provide Ford Power-Up software updates to upgrade your vehicle’s various systems. With our latest update, you’ll also get design and functionality enhancements to SYNC itself.
Digital Owner's Manual
While a paperback owner’s manual is great for downtime reading by the TV or fireplace to learn about your new Ford, sometimes when we need an answer in a pinch it can be cumbersome to look through 200+ pages to find an answer to a simple question.
SYNC 4 Technology now offers a Digital Owner’s Manual that is cloud connected and easy to search. Users will be able to navigate from a table of contents, search by keyword and create bookmarks. Certain features will have videos available to stream (subject to modem coverage). The content is tailored to the specific vehicle model and offers visual search with clickable features of both the interior and exterior of the vehicle. Lastly, there are multiple languages available with content displaying both left to right and right to left. The Digital Owner’s Manual is not accessible when the vehicle is in motion.
Technical Requirements
Smartphones compatible with FordPass are recommended for use with SYNC Technology:
- Apple iPhone 8 or newer with Apple iOS 13.0 or newer
- Android smartphones with Android OS 8.0 or newer
- FordPass Connect(3) must be fully activated for owners to take advantage of certain connectivity features, such as cloud-based connectivity and remote start.
